The Hotel That Added a 13th Floor — In a Building That Only Has 12
Guests at a downtown Chicago hotel have been pressing 13 on the elevator panel — a button that shouldn't exist — and arriving somewhere the hotel management swears isn't there.
The Meridian Grand opened in 1931 and has never had a 13th floor. The building's original architect reportedly refused to build one on superstitious grounds. The elevator panel skips from 12 to 14. Has skipped for ninety years.
