Chapter 6

The Bone Bridge

📍 Blackwood Forest — Witchlight Hollow · June 2026

ThoronNova AshcroftThe Lantern Warden

Thoron and Nova cross a bridge made of ribs and consequence and enter a new Blackwood landmark: Witchlight Hollow — where the witchlights don't guide you out. They negotiate.

“In Witchlight Hollow, the forest doesn't hunt you — it negotiates.”

EXT. THE BONE BRIDGE — BLACKWOOD RAVINE — NIGHT

A bridge of interlocked ribs spans a fog-breathing ravine. The bones flex like they remember weight.

NOVA: Tell me that’s not a bridge.

THORON: It’s a bridge. It’s just built from consequences.

They cross. The fog below briefly forms a face—child, deer skull, nothing. The far end of the bridge dissolves behind them like a door deciding it was never there.

EXT. BLACKWOOD FOREST — NIGHT

Witchlight flickers between the trees—familiar color, wrong behavior. It doesn’t hover. It stalks.

EXT. WITCHLIGHT HOLLOW — NIGHT

A sunken hollow of warm rot and low-floating witchlights. Cathedral-spire mushrooms. A stone circle etched too fresh to be old. A pool reflecting a sky that isn’t there.

Inside a split stump: a Watcher’s Eye charm—an open bone-carved eye tied with hair and twig.

A figure steps into the glow: THE LANTERN WARDEN, masked wood, leaf-stitched cloak, unlit lantern at the hip.

LANTERN WARDEN: You crossed the Bone Bridge. The forest noticed you.

THORON: We get that a lot.

LANTERN WARDEN: In Blackwood, something unique happens every day. A new rule. A new hunger.

LANTERN WARDEN: Today’s rule—The lights will show you what you want. If you follow, they’ll take something you didn’t know you were carrying.

NOVA: How do we survive it?

LANTERN WARDEN: Counter-rule—Do not follow the first light. Wait for the second. The second is the forest correcting itself.

The Warden gives Nova a pouch: black salt, dried rowan, a shard that feels like bone pretending to be glass.

LANTERN WARDEN: When the witchlights show you what you want—salt a circle, speak your true name once, and step backward.

A witchlight flares near Thoron—offering a vision of the Void like an old friend with sharp teeth. Thoron doesn’t move.

NOVA: Look at you. Self-control.

THORON: I’m not being recruited by glowing lies.

They leave Witchlight Hollow without following the first light.

Behind them, the pool ripples—like something just learned their footsteps.

CUT TO BLACK.
